Microscopic Art Workshop
Microscopic Art Workshop
Patrons have the opportunity to view microscopic landscapes that are invisible to the naked eye.
Step One:
“Farmers Blow” into a new Petri dish.
Step Two:
Wait a while until something happens to the mucus. The black areas are actually growing bacteria and you can see how matter has dried into patterns.
Step Three:
Set Microscopes up with various slides in addition to your “Snot Dish.” This day we used a flea slide, pollen, and frog blood. Next use a combination of colored pencils and crayons to try and replicate the microscopic images.
Other Connections:
Our Frog Blood culture this day followed a pseudo-fractal pattern that looked exactly like rivers and tributaries.
Many conversations about fleas occurred which naturally lead to biological discussions.
